Burov's candidacy was supported by 35 out of 60 deputies of the city parliament.
According to the agency, Dainis Turlays, who had previously been elected mayor of Riga instead of Neil Ushakov, resigned on June 20.
In April, Neil Ushakov was dismissed from the post of mayor of Riga amid a corruption scandal involving an enterprise in charge of urban public transport.
