American basketball player Dwight Howard has received permission from his Memphis Grizzlies club to begin negotiations with the Los Angeles Lakers, who are looking for a pivot after DeMarcus Cousins' knee injury, according to several US media.

ESPN, USA Today and The Athletic website revealed that the Grizzlies have approved talks between the Lakers and Howard, who has played in the club in the 2012-13 season.

Cousins may miss the entire 2019/2020 season after a broken cruciate ligament in the left knee, leaving the Lebron James team with a single pivot, JaVale McGee. Rookie Anthony Davis could help out in this position, but his impact would be less than in his strong forward position.

Howard 33 years and 15 seasons in the NBA, arrived this summer in Memphis from Washington after a season where he played only 9 matches due to injuries.

The Athletic also mentioned the Lakers' interest in Frenchman Joakim Noah, 34, who is currently a free agent.
