According to the association Albinos Without Borders, the corpse of a young albino disappeared was found Saturday, August 17 in the north-west of the country.

Niyonkuru's 15-year-old body, Bonheur Niyonkuru, was found Saturday night in the northwest of the country, near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the province of Cibitoke. The disappearance of the albino teenager was reported Tuesday night.

Since 2008, about 20 people with albinism have been killed in Burundi.

According to Kazungu Kassim, the president of the association Albinos without Borders, the last case dates back to 2016. But a four-year-old albino boy has been missing since October 2018 in the commune of Cendajuri, near the Tanzanian border.

The child was found with missing members of his body. One leg and the right arm were cut, as well as the tongue.
