The main opposition party, the National Council for Freedom (CNL) deplores the death of one of its activists and several wounded in an ambush on the night of Sunday to Monday, August 19.

According to the National Council for Freedom (CNL), the incident took place about fifteen kilometers from Muyinga where some 300 activists had gathered for a meeting. They were reportedly attacked on the way back by dozens of people armed with machetes.

The president of the CNL, Agathon Rwasa, accuses young people of the party in power to be at the origin of the attack, and points the responsibility of the authorities in this case. " They did not find any means of transportation, so they decided to spend the night in Muyinga at the CNL party headquarters, but the police prevented them from doing so, " he says. According to him, the Muyinga police commander drove them out of the city " like ordinary criminals ".

Arrived a few tens of kilometers from Muyinga, they were attacked. One person succumbed to his injuries and seven are now bedridden in Muyinga.
