Several prosecutors from different US states are preparing to launch an investigation into the potential anticompetitive practices of technology giants on the internet, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

Such an investigation would add to that of the US Department of Justice announced last month its own antitrust investigation, focused in particular on Alphabet (the parent company of Google) and Facebook.

The Department of Justice will review the practices of online platforms, social networks, search engines and commerce sites to determine if they are harming competition and acting to remedy the situation, including in court.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the parallel initiative of several prosecutors could be formally announced in September.

In July, prosecutors from a dozen states, Republicans and Democrats, met with senior officials of the Justice Department in Washington to discuss these problems of lack of competition among the major groups of the Internet.

Following these meetings, spokespersons of the North Carolina, Mississippi, and Texas public prosecutors expressed their concerns about the monopolistic behavior of Internet giants.
