Fiscal and customs frauds cost the CFA 14.5 billion CFA between 2017 and 2018 (22 million euros), the High Authority against Corruption announced Friday (August 16th).

Frauds range from breaching the code of public procurement to misappropriation of funds, abuse of office and illegal customs clearance. It is essentially in the area of taxation and at the customs level that " much remains to be done ", in the words of Gousmane Abdourahamane, the president of the High Authority against Corruption (HALCIA), in a press conference.

First, at least three billion CFA francs were lost last year. 500 million CFA francs could still be recovered, announces the institution.

Some trucks never arrive at their destination

But it is especially hydrocarbon fraud that is a real loss of revenue for the state with nearly 11 billion CFA loss between 2017 and 2018.

In fact, the anti-corruption authority reveals a system of fraudulent repayment of fuel. Clearly, some trucks destined for export to three neighboring countries never reach their destination. Are they fictitious trucks? Or is their load resold on the black market? One thing is certain: 8% of the expected fuel does not arrive in Burkina Faso and Mali, while 10% of the declared tanks do not reach Nigeria.
