"The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations expresses condolences to the family of the former CEO Jacques Diouf, who passed away yesterday," the statement said.

He led the FAO from January 1994 to December 2011.

The current director of the organization, Qu Dongyu, also expressed condolences to the Diuf family.

“On behalf of the FAO family, I would like to express our condolences to the family of Jacques Diouf, who has devoted a lot of time, passion and experience to the eradication of hunger around the world,” said Qu Dongyu.

On August 18, 2018, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan died at the age of 80 after a short illness.
