Rwanda has taken drastic measures at its borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus. After the discovery of two new cases in South Kivu province in the DRC, several Congolese wanting to cross, between Bukavu and Cyangugu, were denied passage.

Since Tuesday, August 13, all those who have cards or migratory documents issued in North Kivu are returned by the Rwandan migration and, since Friday, with the appearance of two new cases of Ebola in South Kivu , even the Mwenga territory nationals living in Bukavu are stranded.

This is what has just happened to Toussaint.

" In the morning, I arrived here with the voter's card. The people of Rwanda refused it and told me that we could not go here because I have a voter card from Mwenga territory. So I went home to take my passport, I left the card at home but I was asked to show my voter card! "He tells us.

From now on, to cross the border, you need the original voter's card. All other documents, passports or individual passes are not accepted.

Small traders between Bukavu and Cyangugu pay the price. Furaha, their president, is very worried.

" This Rwandan decision penalizes us. However, before, we crossed without problem. This is where we find food. Today, we are stuck. We do not know how we are going to live, "she explains.

Unhappy with this blockade that does not say its name, some residents of Bukavu do not hesitate to ask Kinshasa reciprocity measures against Rwandans.
