The Congolese president has called for support from the countries of the region to eradicate the armed groups on Saturday (August 17th) at the 39th SADC summit in Dar es Salaam.

The idea is not new. Last April, while traveling in the United States, Felix Tshisekedi had already called on his neighbors to fight against terrorism. Saturday, he went further. The head of state called on southern African countries to " solidarity " to defeat armed movements.

" The eastern part of my country is plagued by persistent insecurity caused by internal and external armed groups. I would like here to solicit a little, under the charter of our organization, your solidarity with my country and its people so that at the end of this session, like the special brigade which operates under the command of the Monusco and who had routed the M23, take the firm resolve to strengthen the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo in order to finally end all these movements that sow death and desolation among our people, urged President Tshisekedi. I propose to create, like the world coalition against terrorism, a regional coalition to eradicate this scourge. "

ADF in the spotlight

Are targeted for the DRC the ADF . This armed group is accused of killing thousands of civilians in the north-east of the country in the last five years near the Ugandan neighbor.

But agreeing on who the terrorists to fight may not be obvious to countries in the region as they regularly accuse themselves of maintaining or protecting armed groups that threaten their neighbors.
