"We again call on the EU to respect international law and the basic principles of international relations, to respect China's sovereignty in an appropriate manner and immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong and China's internal affairs in order not to undermine the healthy and stable development of relations between China and the European Union," TASS quoted Statement by the Permanent Mission of China to the EU.

The Permanent Mission noted that "Hong Kong’s affairs are purely an internal affair of China, in which no foreign government or organization should interfere."

Earlier, the European Union called for a settlement of the protests in Hong Kong and restraint by rejecting all forms of violence.

The EU also called for urgent measures to de-escalate the protests in Hong Kong.
