Emmanuel Macron called on the French to "reconcile" after the "difficult moments" of the last months, and lambasted "the spirit of resignation and the small abandonment", during the commemoration of the 75 years of the liberation of Bormes-les- Mimosas (Var).

"Our country sometimes divides and we have experienced in recent months difficult moments of division, sometimes of violence, which we have to know how to get out of. There are sometimes good reasons to disagree and we must respect them. there are others that can be challenged, but you must know how to hear them, "said the President of the Republic.

"But we must never forget that whatever the disagreements, at great moments in our history we were able to reconcile to advance," he added, praising several times "the heroism" of the resistance fighters and soldiers who participated in the Liberation.

"I believe very deeply that what our country, our continent undoubtedly, and the Western world is going through today, is a deep crisis of doubt, (...) but sometimes also lies in the forgetfulness of courage, in spirit of resignation, in small dropouts, "continued the chief executive.

"What brings our country are these centuries of bravery, it is this strength of soul it is this spirit of resistance. It is this fact that there is nothing in France above freedom and of the dignity of each one, this love of France, that is what must reconcile us, "he concluded.

Emmanuel Macron, who spent his holidays at the Fort de Brégançon, in the town of Bormes-les-Mimosas, was speaking to his mayor, local elected officials, veterans and some 200 to 300 guests.

He was then to participate in a pot of friendship in the central square of Bormes.
