The results of the autopsy of Jeffrey Epstein, found dead in his prison cell Saturday, August 10, confirmed that he committed suicide by hanging, said Friday several US media, quoting the report of the New York medical examiner.
Contacted by AFP, the office of the medical examiner did not immediately confirm this information.
Anonymous officials quoted by the New York Times said he apparently used his sheets to kill himself.

The disappearance of the 66-year-old financier accused of organizing a vast network of sexual exploitation of young girls, sometimes only 14 years old, caused a scandal in the United States, while he was detained in Manhattan federal prison , one of the safest penitentiaries in the country.
It sparked a torrent of interrogations and conspiracy theories. Although the authorities had announced Saturday that he had apparently committed suicide, many insinuated that he was murdered to protect the many personalities that attended this figure of the jet set.

The US Justice Minister has launched Saturday two investigations that have already revealed "serious irregularities" in prison. He did not detail them, but the director was transferred and the two guards in charge of monitoring Mr. Epstein in the night from Friday to Saturday were suspended.
Prison officials quoted by The New York Times say the guards had slept for about three hours when they were supposed to do rounds every half hour.
On July 23, Epstein had already been found lying on the floor of his cell, wounded, with marks on his neck. A suicide attempt was then made, but his injuries were minor and he went to a hearing soon after.
