US President Donald Trump on Friday called after meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, India and Pakistan to discuss Kashmir, the White House said.

"The President (Trump) has reiterated the importance for India and Pakistan of reducing Jammu and Kashmir (state) tensions through bilateral dialogue," said the President. American executive in a statement.

Islamabad, for its part, announced that Khan had "detailed Pakistan's point of view to President Trump" during their telephone conversation.

The two men had "a good discussion", after which "it was decided that they would remain in constant contact," said Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Donald Trump hosted Imran Khan in Washington on July 22 and offered to mediate between Pakistan and India on the Kashmir issue.

The US president said he had received a request from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which New Delhi immediately denied.

India has since decided, on August 5, to revoke the autonomous status of the part of Kashmir it controls and which Pakistan claims.
