The fourth eruption since the beginning of the year of the Piton de la Fournaise, the volcano of Reunion, ended on the evening of Thursday, said Friday morning the volcanological observatory (OVPF) and the prefecture.

"The volcanic eruption, started Sunday, August 11, 2019 at 16:20 local time (12:20 in Paris), stopped (?.) Thursday, August 15, 2019 at about 22:00 local time," say volcanologists.

Only persistent "degassing at the level of eruptive fissures and glow in the lava flows that are being cooled," notes the volcanological observatory of Piton de la Fournaise.

The eruption occurred in the paddock, the central caldera of the volcano, in a totally uninhabited area and posed no threat to people and property.

Located in southeastern Reunion, Piton de la Fournaise is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It has erupted about twenty times in the last ten years.

It had already erupted this year in February, June and July.
