The third season in Division 2 in 1979, Mjällby managed to win by a five point margin. The team thus became ready for Allsvenskan for the first time before the season in 1980. But the premiere was not as the club had intended. The team finished in last place in the table.

In 1982, Mjällby again got qualification for the highest league and managed it. The second season started much better and after the third round Mjällby even had one.

Although the team suffered a couple of major losses during the season, the club looked a long time to manage above the mark. But when Mjällby met Malmö FF at home on Strandvallen, Mjällby also dropped out this time - now because of a poorer goal difference.

The following year, Mjällby again succeeded in advancing, but again fell out and it would take 25 years before the association was back in 2010.

The 2014 season ended the Swedish adventure. Mjällby crashed and fell straight down through the Superettan to Division 1 for the 2016 season. 2018 began the retreat.

- We who have been all along know how far down in the shit we were, and how close it was that it had gone clean for the forest. Then it feels extra nice that we have managed to get up, says Mjällby's sports manager Hans Larsson.

Have the chance again

Now they are the series leaders in the Superettan and look again at all Swedish football. In November, it is decided which teams will be moved up. Hans Larsson believes and hopes that Mjällby succeeds in becoming one of the teams.

- It shows that there is a tough wood out here on Lister that does not give up. It feels incredibly nice today, he says.
