“We note that the Government of Gibraltar has received assurances from Iran that Grace 1 will not proceed to Syria. Iran must abide by its guarantees, ”the British Foreign Ministry said.
The British Foreign Ministry also said that "there is no connection between the illegal seizure by Iran of commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz and the government of Gibraltar ensuring compliance with EU sanctions against Syria."
On July 4, Royal Marines of the United Kingdom detained Grace 1 off the coast of Gibraltar due to the ship allegedly delivering oil to Syria.
On August 15, Gibraltar authorities announced a decision to release the Iranian tanker Grace 1.
