Chinese forces, belonging to the military police, were concentrated on Thursday in a stadium in Shenzhen, the city located at the gates of the autonomous territory of Hong Kong, according to an AFP journalist.
The men in military clothes, which could be several thousand, were surrounded by trucks and armored personnel carriers.
The AFP journalist saw the men parading in narrow ranks and training in the race, while others were riding a motorcycle outside the stadium, located less than seven kilometers from the Hong Kong border.
After two months of demonstrations in Hong Kong in favor of democracy, Beijing overcame in recent days the ghost of an intervention to restore order in the former British colony.
Chinese state media released videos of military vehicles heading towards Shenzhen.
The Chinese army that has a garrison with several thousand men in Hong Kon and should not in principle interfere in matters of the territory, but can act at the request of local authorities.
