Five days after the American billionaire Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in his cell, new malfunctions in the prison where he was awaiting trial were revealed. On Tuesday, 13 August, first sanctions were also imposed against the prison staff responsible for its surveillance.

The authorities have not wasted time. At the Metropolitan Federal Prison in New York, the FBI reviews every minute of the night before Jeffrey Epstein's death.

The investigators apparently commandeered the surveillance videos, all the documents concerning the billionaire, but also all those concerning the practices within the penitentiary establishment.

It is already known that Jeffrey Epstein was alone in his cell, whereas the protocol requires that detainees be always placed in pairs . The billionaire was removed from the anti-suicide watchdog unit for an unknown reason, even though he had already tried to kill himself.

According to the American media, the two guards in charge of his surveillance that night slept instead of ensuring the scheduled rounds every 30 minutes. They then falsified the documents and claimed that the protocol was respected.

The two men have just been suspended during the investigation. The director of the prison was transferred. Other sanctions could be taken as the investigation progresses.

On Tuesday, August 13, Donald Trump also called for extensive investigations into the death of Jeffrey Epstein. The 66-year-old American billionaire was found this Saturday morning hanged in his cell. He had to be tried for sex trafficking and multiple sexual assaults on minors.
