Toronto has been undergoing a wave of violence for two years. The first weekend of August, about twenty people were injured during shootings. A situation that preoccupies not only the authorities of the city but goes back to the top of the state.

The mayor wants the government to ban the use of handguns on the territory of his municipality, including revolvers. He discussed it with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday. And those who still doubted it now have the conviction: Toronto's security will be at the heart of the issues of the next Canadian election on October 20th.

Following his meeting with the mayor of the "Queen City", Justin Trudeau did not fail to skin his conservative rivals. According to him, they rely on the reduction of subsidies to social programs, which are just one of the important ways to prevent young people from falling into crime.

Rising inequalities

The Prime Minister has also refused to detail the precise measures to be taken to limit the outbreak of violence in Toronto. The mayor, John Tory, advocates a hardening of the judicial sentences when the crimes imply a weapon.

Already the police have received more than 3 million euros to fight against this phenomenon. A phenomenon that many criminologists associate with rising inequality in the Canadian metropolis. Young people, often from recent immigration, fall into delinquency because they lack the means to integrate into society.
