In July, several heat records were struck around Europe, including Paris where the record temperature was measured at 42.6 degrees at the end of the month.

Now, an official of the French Ministry of Culture says that several stones have fallen from the roof of the fire-damaged Notre-Dame cathedral as a result of the heat, the AP writes. According to the official, the heat caused the plaster to dry out quickly.

The work was stopped after a lead alarm

According to the official, the damage is "not serious" but there is a risk that the old cathedral will be damaged even more - and maybe even collapse.

They have previously stopped the remediation work in Notre-Dame due to lead alarms, and therefore only a few people are currently allowed to enter there to monitor falling building blocks, among other things.

But according to the official, the restoration work should resume as soon as possible, ahead of the long restoration work still awaiting the cathedral.
