“Yes, I would no longer want to occupy active political posts ... Of course, I will remain a political person, but I will not engage in active political activity,” she said at a meeting with readers of the Ostsee-Zeitung newspaper in Stralsund.

She also noted that she did not intend to occupy any posts at the EU level.

“All the posts there have just been distributed,” said the Chancellor.

In March, former German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel allowed Merkel to resign early due to growing dissatisfaction among voters.

At the end of 2018, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer was elected the chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) instead of Merkel.
