“The Directorate calls on the Hong Kong authorities to act with restraint, ensuring that the rights of those who express their views peacefully are respected and protected,” OHCHR spokeswoman Rupert Colville quoted TASS as saying.
According to him, there is evidence that the actions of the Hong Kong law enforcement services did not comply with international standards.
Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau advised the Chinese authorities to "very carefully" try to resolve the situation with protesters in Hong Kong.
