The Brazilian Supreme Court authorized the extradition of Spanish citizen Carlos García Juliá, convicted of participating in the massacre of leftist lawyers committed in Madrid's Atocha street in 1977, the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed Tuesday.

The fugitive fled from Spain to Paraguay after obtaining parole in 1991 and was arrested on December 5 in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo .

The second chamber of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) of Brazil followed the opinion granted by the Brazilian Prosecutor's Office and authorized the extradition unanimously , according to a statement from the Federal Public Ministry (MPF).
