Most of the cadets of tricolor athletics (Renaud Lavillenie, Melina Robert-Michon, Jimmy Vicaut ...) are part of the provisional selection for the Worlds of Doha (September 27 - October 6) announced Tuesday by the FFA, while Christophe Lemaitre must be content for the moment with the relay 4x100 m.

The French Athletics Federation has selected 35 new athletes, most of them those who won the French Championships at the end of July in Saint-Etienne and who have met the minimums requested by the International Athletics Federation (IAAF) to participate in the most prestigious competition. of the year.

Among them, regulars already medalists in major competitions like Renaud Lavillenie (pole), Mélina Robert-Michon (record), Alexandra Tavernier (Hammer), Jimmy Vicaut (100 m and relay 4x100 m) or Pascal Martinot-Lagarde (110 m hurdles), but also athletes destined to become like Quentin Bigot (hammer), Wilhem Belocian (110 m hurdles) or Solène Ndama (100 m hurdles).

They join seven already selected athletes, including reigning world champions Kevin Mayer (decathlon), Pierre-Ambroise Bosse (800m) and Yohann Diniz (50km walk).

The sprinter Christophe Lemaitre, Olympic bronze medalist on 200 m in 2016, must for the moment be content with a place in the relay 4x100 m. Lemaitre, like Yoann Kowal (3,000m steeplechase) or Rénelle Lamote (800m) for example, can still hope to be selected if they achieve good performances by September 6th, closing of the qualifications, in particular at the meeting of Diamond League from Paris on August 24th.
