Las Palmas (AP) - The forest fire that has raged since the weekend in the mountains of the Spanish holiday island of Gran Canaria is not yet under control. Hundreds of other people were taken to safety during the night, said the Emergency Service of the Canary Islands Government on Twitter. Already yesterday several villages had been evacuated. Strong winds repeatedly fanned the flames and drove the fire forward, local media reported. A 55-year-old could have caused the fire on Saturday possibly by carelessness in welding.
