Since the end of June, the project leaders for Uppsala Loves Hip Hop, Catarina Zarazua and Mateja Kovacevic, have had open street dance classes for young and older dance enthusiasts.

- It goes from training to becoming a dance party. It is children, the elderly, families and unaccompanied people who are dancing. It is very nice that we can meet like this, says Mateja Kovacevic.

The dance event is a collaboration between Uppsala Loves Hip Hop, Uppsala municipality and the student association Bilda where you want to get more people discovering the fun of dance.

Music genre for the unique

Classes have been held at both Stadsparken and Uppsala dance centers during the summer, and are often filled with dance-soaked people who are attracted to the tones of hip hop.

- In hip-hop you have to be unique and not be like anyone else. We have noticed that it is a great way to get people dancing, that they feel more free, says Catarina Zarazua.

May be a fourth year

After three years, both Catarina Zarazua and Mateja Kovacevic have noticed that more and more people are choosing to participate in their dance classes on Sundays. Sometimes they have been up to 50 people who have participated and danced.

They hope to continue until next summer.

- We really hope to continue until next year as this is a collaboration with the municipality of Uppsala so we hope for more Hiphop Sundays, says Mateja Kovacevic.
