An avalanche this Saturday on the main road 1 of Andorra at the height of Borda Sabaté has forced to cut traffic on the road that gives access to Spain , where it can only be accessed through the border of France.

In a statement, the Govern d'Andorra said they work to restore traffic in coordination with the community of Sant Julià de Lòria and the Spanish authorities.

The incident has not caused injuries since it has happened early in the morning and there were practically no vehicles circulating but damage has been recorded in a shopping center near the area.

Speaking to TV3, the director of Andorra's mobility department, Jaume Bonell, explained that they hope to restore circulation throughout the morning of this Saturday.

He has also said that they are waiting for a report from geologists who are monitoring the area by helicopter to determine the supply and causes of the avalanche.

Some works were being done near the place although Bonell says that the detachment comes from a higher area of the mountain.
