- For a few years now, we have had two sustainability departments. Now we see that we need to work on sustainability issues more cohesively, says Ingela Hagström, Deputy City Director and who leads the work.

The work takes off in Agenda 2030 and the global goals that Sweden has committed to work towards. As an example of a local issue that concerns both parts of the new department, she mentions the planning of cycle paths and pedestrian lanes.

No dismissal

The reorganization will not mean that anyone in the two departments will lose the job, she insures. However, the merger will mean lower costs for Uppsala municipality, but that is not a reason for the merger being implemented, says Ingela Hagström.

- The goal is a greater focus on Agenda 2030. Saving is not a primary aim, but we obviously want to have as cost-effective an organization as possible, says Ingela Hagström.

Work on the reorganization began before the summer. This autumn, a new head of the sustainability department will be recruited.
