The Government does not even intercede with the EU in favor of Open Arms

The American actor Richard Gere has taken food to the ship of the Spanish NGO Open Arms , which is waiting to be indicated a port in which to disembark 121 immigrants saved in the central Mediterranean a week ago.

The organization has spread photographs in which the actor and activist can be seen, married to the Spanish businesswoman Alejandra Silva, bringing food and supplies to the humanitarian ship.

" Finally, a little good news . Foods arrive at #OpenArms and we have an exceptional crewmate #RichardGere," the organization celebrated on its Twitter account.

The movie star brought food packages for immigrants rescued at sea and the crew , as well as water, fruits and vegetables.

Open Arms waits from last week near the Italian island of Lampedusa (south), in international waters, to be assigned a safe harbor to safeguard 121 immigrants rescued at sea in two different operations .

The first rescue was on Thursday, August 1, when 55 immigrants were saved, including two twin babies and a pregnant woman, just when their boat was "about to shipwreck" and water entered, explained the founder of the NGO, Oscar Camps .

The second was in the middle of the night the day after and 69 people were rescued and welcomed on board, between these two children and two pregnant women and "one of nine months with contractions", and many with "unequivocal signs of the violence suffered in Libya " , where they set sail from.

Subsequently, two women in advanced gestation and the sister of one of them were landed, as she had lost her husband in Libya.

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, a rightist who keeps ports closed to NGOs, which he accuses of favoring irregular immigration, has insisted that he will not allow the Open Arms ship to enter Italian waters.

And that the immigrants on board are "direct responsibility" of Madrid.

The Italian Parliament has just approved a decree promoted by Salvini that permits requisitions of NGOs that violate the ban on entering Italian waters and that foresees fines of up to one million euros.

In Spain, the city of Valencia has offered to host the boat and the community of Extremadura to collaborate in the reception of immigrants.

The Spanish authorities prohibited Open Arms from resuming the active search for endangered barges, limiting its activity, and on July 4 the Merchant Marine warned it that it would face fines of up to 900,000 euros if it contravened its request.
