In total, 1.6 million children were born in Russia in 2018.
According to Sergei Shulgin, deputy head of the International Laboratory for Demography and Human Capital, Institute of Applied Economic Research, RANEPA, the popular age at birth has changed insignificantly in recent years. But the average age when a woman gives birth to a child is increasing throughout the country, the expert says.
“Over the past 15 years, the average age of birth of a child is growing markedly. This is a global trend. In Russia, as in other countries, it is associated with a change in the lifestyle of women: more and more they give preference to careers, to education and, in this regard, postpone the birth of a child. We predict that this trend will continue, ”he said.
