New explosions occurred in the ammunition depot of the military unit, located near the village of Kamenka, Achinsky district. This was stated in the Ministry of Defense of Russia. The cause of detonation was the hit of lightning.

“On August 9, 2019, as a result of a lightning discharge entering the rack with ammunition with impaired lightning protection, the ammunition ignited with a subsequent detonation,” the press service of the Central Military District said.

They also claim that as a result of this minor injuries and glass cuts were received by a private security officer at the warehouse checkpoint.

At the same time, information was earlier posted on the website of the government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory that the explosions occurred during demining and liquidation of the consequences of the previous emergency.

“During the mine clearing and liquidation of the consequences of the emergency in Kamenka, a shell exploded, as a result of which five employees were injured and the car damaged,” the statement reads.

Kamenka evacuation

In this regard, further work at the scene of the incident was suspended, according to emergency services in the region. Also, the regional emergency response headquarters decided to evacuate the residents of Kamenka in order to avoid possible incidents.

“In connection with these circumstances and taking into account the sharp deterioration of weather conditions, the regional emergency response headquarters decided to organize the movement of Kamenka residents to a temporary accommodation center for the village of Malinovka,” the press service of the government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory said.

11 buses were sent to evacuate the population from the city of Achinsk and the Achinsk region.

Meanwhile, in the Achinsk interdistrict central hospital, they say that eight people suffered from new explosions.

“One military, two policemen and five civilians. The state of moderate severity, ”the representative of the hospital quotes TASS.

In emergency services, it was reported that the number of victims had already reached nine.

Because of the situation near Achinsk, Russian Railways decided to suspend the movement of trains on one of the sections of the Krasnoyarsk railway.

“In order to ensure the safety of passenger traffic in the Achinsk region, the movement of trains on the section Achinsk 2 - Nazarovo was suspended. Trains No. 67 with the Abakan-Moscow connection and No. 114 with the Novosibirsk-Abakan route will go in a circular route through the Krasnoyarsk and Sayanskaya stations, follows from a message on the Russian Railways website.

The company emphasized that the current situation will not affect the movement of other passenger trains.

In turn, emergency services notified that over the military warehouse, where new explosions occurred, airspace would be closed again.

State of emergency at art warehouse

The previous fire and the subsequent explosions in the warehouse of the military unit occurred on Monday, August 5. According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the incident occurred during the loading and unloading of ammunition. The department did not specify the cause of the fire, saying only that the uncontrolled process of undermining the ammunition began during the extinguishing of the fire.

As a result of the incident, one person died, more than ten were injured. The fragments from the explosion scattered within a radius of 15 km. Because of this, local authorities announced an evacuation in settlements located within a radius of 20 km from the emergency site, and introduced an emergency regime in Achinsk, Achinsk and Nazarovsky districts. In total, more than 16 thousand people were forced to leave their homes.

Two fire trains and two multifunctional robotic systems “Uran-14”, as well as ten Il-76 aircraft and five Mi-8 helicopters were sent to eliminate the fire. The Ministry of Defense said that after the normalization of the situation, the arsenal will be disbanded.

In fact, what happened, the Investigation Committee opened a criminal case under part 2 of article 349 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Violation of the rules for handling weapons and objects of increased danger to others, resulting in the death of a person through negligence”).

On Wednesday, August 7, repair and restoration work was started at the ammunition depot. Then the emergency mode was removed from all over the Achinsk region. After that, the Ministry of Defense said that the head of the department, Sergei Shoigu, instructed to complete the repair in the villages that suffered from the explosion of shells in two weeks. The priority in the restoration work was identified as housing and social infrastructure.

As Igor Lisin, Head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Krasnoyarsk Territory, reported, as a result of detonation of shells, eight houses in Kamenka were completely destroyed.
