A new day of protest started in Hong Kong this Friday, August 9th. In particular, an action was launched around the airport. The mobilization, built on opposition to a bill to extradite Hong Kongers to mainland China, has been going on for over two months now. Activists are now demanding more democracy.

This Friday, protesters want to educate travelers arriving in Hong Kong. The meeting at the airport is a bit like starting a new mobilization weekend . Several hundred people are gathered.

The first landed in the arrival hall of international flights with boxes of posters, stickers, small booklets explaining the situation and the reasons for their movement in several languages: Japanese, Spanish, English and some Chinese.

"Tomorrow it will be Taiwan"

They explain that, as they are still not heard after two months , the airport seemed the right place for them to hear at least internationally. It works, as tourists stop, take pictures and post them on their social networks.

This is what plans to make a Taiwanese tourist met by RFI. He was already wearing a sticker " I'm with Hong Kong " when he arrived, and said, " Today is Hong Kong, tomorrow it will be Taiwan. So, we have to think about it. "

Protesters have planned to stay three days at the airport until Sunday. The police should not, according to them, try to dislodge them at the risk of giving a bad image to the tourists. Activists are already circulating posters that they distribute chaotic scenes of events.

Another event is scheduled this Friday night and there will be at least five more during the weekend. The former chief of police, who had been running the umbrella movement five years ago, was reminded of his retirement to run the rallies.

The latter was scheduled to meet police officials on the ground this Friday. He has already said that the police lacked confidence in his ability to respond to the protests, which does not bode well for the protesters.
