The judicial police of Nice put an end to the activities of a clandestine gaming club in Cannes. Three individuals, suspected of being the organizers, were arrested in late July, we learned from the prosecutor's office of Grasse.

A repeat offender

The three men, about fifty years, are pursued for "holding a gambling house organized gang," said Fabienne Atzori, prosecutor of the Republic of Grasse. Facts for which they incur up to seven years of imprisonment. Presented August 2 before the Criminal Court of Grasse, in immediate appearance, they asked for a time to be tried and the case was postponed to 11 September.

Two of them were released under judicial supervision; the third, a repeat offender, was imprisoned for the remainder of a six-month sentence he did not perform. He had already been convicted in 2016 for similar events in Marseille dating back to 2009.

Bridge club day, gambling at night

The investigation of the Niçoise antenna of the interregional direction of the judicial police is part of information collected in June. It allowed to show that the activity of this circle of games lasted for "at least a few weeks", specified the floor of Grasse. It has also been revealed that at least 7 or 8 professional croupiers, employed in official game establishments in the region, took turns to ensure the good performance of the underground poker games. According to information from Europe 1, 36,000 euros in cash have been seized. Sums of money "suggesting that this activity was profitable," notes Fabienne Atzori. According to a source close to the investigation, this illegal gambling den could yield several thousand euros of profits every night.
