08 August 2019The death toll in the Severodvinsk military base accident in the Arkhangelsk region is two dead and six injured. The Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement quoted by Russian agencies.

The explosion of a liquid-propelled engine during a test was the cause of the fire, the ministry continues.

Tass: no danger of radiation from fire military base
"The level of radiation in Severodvinsk is normal" following the fire at a military base in northern Russia, which started on a ship. Emergency services sources said, quoted by the Tass news agency. The governor of the Arkhangelsk region, Igor Orlov, added that no evacuation of civilians from the area is necessary. The flames, followed by an explosion, would have occurred during operations on a ship, writes Tass, citing an anonymous source.
