The measure is described as "preventive" and was announced after the city's health authorities said they are investigating whether the wildfire in April is the cause of the high lead levels detected in the bloodstream of children living in Paris. It reports US CNN.

On Tuesday, the Paris Regional Health Authority (ARS) said it discovered that a child has higher lead levels than normal. The health authority said that in recent weeks, samples have been taken in the Ile de la Cité area, near the cathedral, which shows that the risk of lead exposure has "largely ceased".

Other reasons

At the same time, ARS states that the authority has initiated an investigation into the situation of the affected children. It also includes an investigation into whether there may be other causes that may have affected children's lead levels.

However, the authority did not provide any further details, CNN reports.

Lead does not disappear

The heavy metal lead will not disappear, says Jacky Bonnemains, spokesman for the French environmental group Robin des Bois. The environmental group estimates that over 300 tonnes of lead melted from the cathedral ceiling and sprout.

Warning

Police have previously warned that children under the age of six and pregnant women are most at risk of lead poisoning.
