The former Republican candidate for the White House returns to Utah, where he was born and where he served as governor, to try a new mandate. The resignation will be effective from October 3, "a time, I hope, sufficient to appoint and confirm a successor," he said. In two years in Moscow he managed the growing US-Russian tensions after the events on interference in the 2016 US vote.
