“I respectfully resign from the post of Ambassador of the United States to Russia from October 3, 2019. I hope that this will leave enough time for the appointment and approval of the successor, ”the message says.
The text also says that Russia and the United States have common interests, despite the fact that "much that separates us is incompatible." The letter also emphasizes that it is “critically important” to maintain dialogue between countries on national security issues, in particular, in the fight against terrorism and arms control.
Earlier, the chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, met with US Ambassador John Huntsman, during which they discussed issues of strategic stability and international security.
