China has said it will not respond if it deploys medium-range missiles to Asia.

"We urge neighboring countries not to allow the deployment of US missiles in their territory," AFP quoted Chinese President Hu Jintao as saying Monday.

He named Australia, Japan and Korea.

He also said that China will not be willing to take part in a trilateral disarmament agreement with the United States and Russia, and will only be involved in multilateral talks.

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper says he wants to deploy conventional medium-range missiles in the Asia-Pacific region within months of his Asian tour last weekend.

The Chinese government has threatened to "not become a bullet in the US" by picking up Korea and Japan on December 5th.
