• Casa Real. The King urges the parties to "find a solution and not go to elections"
  • Investiture failed. The Congress tombs the election of Pedro Sánchez as President of the Government with 155 votes against and 67 abstentions

On November 26, 2016 Pedro Sánchez began his particular resurrection. Dejected by the socialist barons, who brought him down from the General Secretariat of the PSOE in the federal committee of October 1 of the same year, the current president of the Government began a round of visits by party groups throughout Spain that first gave him the Party keys and then the Presidency.

His journey began in Valencia , a city that has since become a sort of fetish during his most committed moments. Perhaps this is why Sanchez chose her again yesterday to try to reverse the blockade that was found in the Congress of Deputies for his inauguration. Accompanied by the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, and the organization secretary, José Luis Ábalos, the president of the government and general secretary of the PSOE met with the leader of Compromís and vice president of the Generalitat, Mónica Oltra, and the only deputy of the formation in the Congress, Joan Baldoví, with the intention of transforming his abstention into the first vote in favor of his future candidacy.

And the reading of both parties at the start of the meeting was very optimistic about it. Compromís launched a series of requirements to be able to mutate its abstention in a yes next September focusing on financing, debt, an autonomous VAT tranche, the payment of aid from the agency and the creation of a health guarantee fund. And the PSOE assumed the claims without too much reticence. Ábalos, in fact, confirmed that they will transfer the Compromís claims to the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, to square the numbers and be able to close a feasible and acceptable document by the Executive. In fact, he considered that there is agreement "in substance." And it is that some of the requests put forward at the negotiating table had already been glimpsed in the frustrated General State Budgets of 2019. Regarding autonomous financing, Compromís claimed a proposal from the Government with which to start working in the first eight months of legislature, a very approximate time to which the Socialists handled first and that approached the year. Baldoví also revealed that they will claim 50% of the VAT income for the autonomies, the payment of a fund that covers the increase in health expenditure in summer derived from tourist pressure and that the Government assumes at least 25% of two years in two years. dependency aid and 50% in four.

The main stumbling block, the Compromís deputy slipped, negotiators found him in debt. The Valencian coalition considers insufficient the document in which the PSOE_tan only agrees to study the situation of the regional debt and demanded one more effort: "It is insufficient. We must add something, a verb, that implies some movement. The debt is already studied and we can not stay in that, we must move forward so that the Community can ease its financial burden, "he said.

The seed to seal the alliance seems sown in the judgment of the two parties involved. And, both Ábalos and Mónica Oltra agreed to highlight the good harmony shown in the meeting, which lasted about an hour in a hotel near the Central Park . "We have advanced in a very cordial, friendly climate. It has been in tune and we have agreed that Spain will have a progressive government." The words pronounced by Ábalos were practically repeated later by Oltra, who appealed not to repeat the elections. "People do not want to vote again, they want us to know how to manage their vote. We must make every effort and listen because the investiture stayed very close," he said.

Although the meeting also talked about the solution for the next investiture session, the only one who spoke on a form of government was Compromís. "Coalition governments are not the devil," said Baldoví, while Oltra defended the Community's formula, where a tripartite pact has been reached to achieve "the most stable and prolific government since we have self-government."

With whom the PSOE was not tuned was with the PP. Ábalos described as "joke" the proposal of the popular to separate Pedro Sánchez to give way to a candidacy led by popular and Cs with the abstention of the Socialists

Meeting with environmental associations

Before traveling to Valencia, Pedro Sánchez has held a meeting in Madrid with environmental NGOs. The acting president has arrived at the meeting without wanting to respond to the press about the King's statements asking to find a "solution" before the call for new general elections.

Sánchez has summoned environmental NGOs on Monday, in the framework of his round of consultations with civil society to prepare a government proposal to present to Podemos Podemos.

The socialist leader has come walking to the meeting place, the Ecooo space, in the center of Madrid, accompanied by the head of Entrepreneurship, Science and Innovation of the Executive of the PSOE, Francisco Polo . Shortly thereafter, the acting Energy Transition Minister, Teresa Ribera, who at the end of the meeting has indicated that the desire of the Government and of all Spaniards is to make an investiture as soon as possible and "not go to new elections", as the King expressed this Sunday, but it will be necessary to see to what extent it is "feasible".

Ribera has considered that it is important that Spain has a stable government "as soon as possible" both for the type of debates that have been raised this morning, in the meeting with environmentalists, and others that "require the action of a fully invested Government, and not just a functioning government, however much we can do.
