03 August 2019 Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced that Malta, "at the request of Germany", will allow the landing of the 40 migrants on board the German ship Al Kurdi, stating that none of them "will remain in Malta".

"At the request of Germany, Malta will allow the 40 migrants on board the German ship Alan Kurdi to be transferred to the Armed Forces and to disembark - wrote Muscat on Twitter - the German government and the European Commission have organized the reception of all people in different EU Member States. No migrant will remain in Malta ".

"Thanks Malta, thank you Joseph Muscat", was the reply on Twitter of the Sea-Eye NGO. The ship had been waiting for hours "about 20 miles from Malta for a political settlement".
