Open Arms is still looking for a port to land 121 rescued migrants in two separate operations. The Spanish NGO Proactiva Open Arms rescued a first group of 55 people from Libya on Thursday and a second group of 69 people on Friday.

Of the 124 rescued migrants, two pregnant women and the sister of one of them have been allowed to land in Italy for medical reasons, while the others are still on board the forbidden entry ship into territorial waters. Italian.

The vessel therefore wishes to be able to land in Malta, but the port authorities have repeatedly refused. They " claim that the nearest port is the Italian port of Lampedusa, but so far, Italy has not responded, " says Oscar Camp, director of the NGO Proactiva that manages the humanitarian ship.

The ship is still waiting for an answer in the coming hours as the ship Alan Kurdi has been allowed to land the 40 migrants he rescued on the island of Malta.

Respect for human rights

For Oscar Camp, people rescued from the Open Arms need medical and psychological assistance: " They are fleeing a country at war, they have all been tortured, there are gunshot wounds - they are victims of the war. war and bombing. Logically, we evacuated the most serious medical cases. "

The Open Arms rescued a first group of 55 people on Thursday 1st August off the coast of Libya and the next day a second group of 69 others. The director of Proactiva concludes: " We are waiting for these people to be treated in accordance with human rights. We will demand compliance with international maritime law agreements from the host countries, namely Malta and Italy. "
