In support of the bill, 125 members of the upper house of parliament voted, 61 opposed, one parliamentarian abstained.

It is expected that on August 6 the bill will be considered in the lower house of parliament (Lok Sabha).

Earlier in India, the troops were put on high alert after a bill was submitted to parliament to abolish Kashmir’s special status.

The proposal to cancel the corresponding article of the constitution was made by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of India, Amit Shah.

According to him, because of this article, the residents of Jammu and Kashmir "live in poverty."
