State Department: sanctions can reduce trade with Russia by billions of dollars

New sanctions against Russia in connection with the case of the poisoning of the former GRU employee Sergey Skrypal and his daughter Yulia may reduce the commercial relations of Moscow and Washington by billions of dollars, the US Department of State reports.

“These sanctions will restrict Russia's access ... to materials from the US that are strategically important for the Russian chemical and biological weapons program. These measures can reduce Russia's access to billions of dollars of mutual business with the United States, ”the agency said in a statement from RIA Novosti.

Earlier, the United States announced the introduction of a second package of sanctions against Russia in the case of Skripale.

The document provides for restrictions for US banks to participate in the primary market of Russian sovereign debt, not denominated in rubles, as well as lending to the Russian government in rubles and licensing restrictions.
