WP: US ready to withdraw several thousand troops from Afghanistan

According to the newspaper, in accordance with the agreements, the Taliban should begin negotiations on a larger peace agreement directly with the Afghan authorities. In this case, the United States will reduce its contingent in the country from about 14 thousand to 8-9 thousand military.

Earlier, US Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, said that the Inter-Afghan talks would begin after the United States concluded an agreement with the Taliban.
