The area of ​​wildfires in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) exceeds 1.2 million hectares, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region reports.



"On the territory of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), there are 123 natural fires on a total area of ​​1,215,960.0 hectares," the report indicates.

As specified in the department, most of the fires - 106 - is in the control zone.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations added that the number of fires decreased by 10 foci per day. 787 people and 119 units of equipment were involved in extinguishing fires.

July 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Defense to help extinguish fires in Siberia and the Far East.

Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, Colonel-General Vladimir Shamanov, in an interview with the ANF, noted that the scale of fires in the Far Eastern Siberian zone exceeded the capabilities of the Emergencies Ministry, so the Defense Ministry forces were involved.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, rescue department aviation was involved in extinguishing fires in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Yakutia, in particular, two Be-200 aircraft and a Mi-8 helicopter, which “carried out more than 25 water discharges with a total weight of over 260 tons.”
