Tributes everywhere in France

As soon as the body of this 24-year-old extracurricular animator was found on Monday , tributes were paid to Nantes but also to other cities indeed.

In Bordeaux, 250 people gathered in silence Tuesday night to pay tribute to Steve Maia Caniço. Similarly in Besançon, in the east of France, where about fifty people found themselves in front of the police station of the city to claim "justice for Steve". Finally, in Toulouse on Wednesday evening, several hundred people marched behind the slogans "The police assassin" or " Castaner resignation".

Reactions of the political class

As soon as the report of the police force was released that cleared the police of the disappearance of Steve Maia Caniço, several politicians expressed their dissatisfaction.

For example, Sandra Regol, the spokesperson for Europe-Ecology-Greens, was exasperated with what she considers to be "contempt" for the "government's position" on the subject.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon castigates for his part on social networks the "Macronist regime that opened the cycle of violence and politicization of the police and justice."

National Rally spokesman Sébastien Chenu harshly attacked Christophe Castaner, the interior minister. He denounces the "nullity and zeal of the dunce Castaner". He asks for his resignation.

Members of France Insoumise Eric Coquerel and Alexis Corbière wish the opening of a parliamentary inquiry to understand and know the conditions of dispersion of participants in the evening of June 21, 2019, when Steve Maia Caniço fell in the Loire.

Gilles le Gendre, the president of the Republic in the National Assembly group is not in favor of this parliamentary commission of inquiry. He considers that this case should not be used for political purposes.

Judicial and administrative inquiries are also in progress.
