The initiative was made by senators Marco Rubio and Chris van Hollen.
“By stating that sanctions will be a consequence of future intervention, we will create a more significant deterrent effect than if we punish them in advance,” the senators said.
In particular, the new bill proposes to introduce additional sanctions against Russia's sovereign debt only if repeated interference with the elections from Moscow is proved.
