In Russia, they can prohibit foreigners from owning significant Internet companies.

The corresponding document is posted in the electronic database of the State Duma.

The explanatory note to the draft law states that it is necessary to “define the concept of significant information resources for the development of the information infrastructure of Russia”.

It clarifies RIA Novosti, the initiative is aimed at IT-companies for which the Russian market is the main one.

The document proposes to limit the share of foreign participation in the resource to 20% of the voting shares; the main owner should “be a Russian legal entity or a citizen of the Russian Federation”.

Earlier, the State Duma introduced a bill to identify e-mail users.
