"Blessed is the fruit": The series "The Handmaid's Tale: The Scarlet Servant", dystopia on a nightmarish America become a theocracy, will have a fourth season, announced Friday the streaming platform Hulu.

Adapted from Margaret Atwood's eponymous book, the series takes place in a very near future when the United States was overthrown by a religious dictatorship, the "Republic of Gilead", at a time when, for unclear environmental reasons, humans have seen their fertility collapse.

The few women still able to procreate, such as the heroine Offred, embodied on screen by Elisabeth Moss, were turned into sex slaves in the service of Gilead's leaders who raped them during monthly religious ceremonies.

The series, which has won 11 Emmy Awards, is currently in its third season and ends August 14 in the United States.

No further details were provided on season 4.

Hulu, owned by Disney, has 28 million subscribers. The platform also announced Friday that the Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali will join the second season of the series "Ramy", and that a comedy in 10 episodes in collaboration with Amy Schumer would see the day.
