The acting US embassy in Libya has met with the head of the presidential council of the National Reconciliation Government, Fayez al-Sarraj, while the Tunisian military judge is investigating a Libyan military pilot who landed in Tunisia, the US embassy in Libya said.

The US embassy said in a statement that Serraj and Harris stressed during the meeting the importance of an immediate end to the fighting in Tripoli and the speedy return of the political process mediated by the United Nations.

The embassy said that Al-Serraj discussed with the US charge d'affaires "the continued cooperation between Libya and the United States to combat terrorism."

Al-Serraj's visit to Tunisia follows the landing of a military aircraft belonging to retired Major General Khalifa Hafter, who is on a public road in the southern Tunisian state of Medenine.

A source in the Tunisian foreign ministry declined to discuss the objectives of the visit, although it was linked to the military aircraft belonging to Hafter.

The Tunisian defense ministry said on Tuesday that a military investigating judge was continuing to investigate the pilot, a colonel, while the plane was in a military facility under investigation.

Hafar's forces announced that the plane had been damaged by navigation equipment, forcing it to land in southern Tunisia, while it was heading to the military air base of Hafat on the border.
